Paulo Coelho is perhaps the most widely-read living author in the world. Over 100 million people have bought his books. The most well-known is The Alchemist. If you have not read this small book, you will see when you do why 65 million people have been touched by it. I am one of them. Linda and I visited Paulo and his wife at their home in Geneva, Switzerland, in June 2012, to interview him for a special project. He graciously welcomed us and all of the film crew (which included friends of the crew who came to see him). He patiently stood with each of us smiling for photographs and offered us coffee after the interview. We all enjoyed how available to us he was.
As I sat by the camera, reviewing my first question, Paulo began to speak, and this recording is what he said. Have you ever wondered how far a gift from your heart goes? When The Seat of the Soul was published I felt that it might not be read by many people because it was so different from most other books. A quarter of a century later I learned from Paulo that about that same time, a young man in another part of the world – who would later become one the world’s great authors – was taking my gift into his heart. I am humbled by this humble man. I am happy to share Paulo’s gift with you.
